i mentioned it in another thread( cant seem to find it) but generally all the quote unquote "Noobtoobing" AKA Mass driver and the ungoldy amount of nade spam ( seems to be fixed now, i likes -thumbs up- ) seemed to be annoying at the time.
Then you guys showed up ( newberries, fresh from the fields; Yummy >:])
So anyways reposting the idea in a new thread, why not add Friendly fire to all explosive-based weapons for the time being. (I.E: Mass drivers, swarm launchers, grenades, forge guns, plasma cannons etc) that way if would require the user to be more careful with his shots, any careless or even reckless uses of said weapons can and will kill a friendly clone.
I mean, looking at it from a developer's standpoint, full on friendly fire would be generally a bad idea, people will kill the other innocents, people will rage and tables will be flipped. but to the devs if you can implement this idea early on, to teach the other players that "hey is allright to throw a nade or shoot that MD at someone's face, but be careful with it, you will get negative x points if you wound or kill your allies indiscriminately from your actions." implementing an idea like this later on will cause some delicious if unnessecary QQ.
Just throwing it out there, hope to hear your response Safe Hunting. |

Friendly fire cannot be only applied to one type of weapon what you see as spam i see as firing my weapon at a whopping 60RPM while your AR is upwards of 700RPM.
Giving only explosive weapons friendly fire is both ridiculous and a tad short sighted. I'm sure the reason you want this is because a MD user fired into combat and kill the guy you were attempting to kill or you just don't like mass drivers/explosives in general.
So -1 your idea is bad and you should feel ashamed.
nope, no shame whatsoever.
to restate: The statement originated in the middle of the insta-Nade QQ'ing, it was a simple idea i had proposed inside the thread and while a few people liked it, the others said that it was coming SOONtm. since that thread is useless now the grenades have been fixed (I hope) i decided to pull that idea into fruition. Slowly add friendly fire as time passes
in combat, would you chuck a grenade at someone's feet while he is next to a friendly? yes. but it would endorse spamming and later when they implement fully enabled friendly fire into the game itself: There's going to be alot of QQ.
Including you, who will use the Mass driver recklessly and take out a squad of red dots while killing 2 of your allies in the process.
That grenade should take out the Enemy and your ally, adding to the immersion of the game. now maybe that friendly had no clue, or he was that stupid, and yeah maybe that person should deserve a nade to the face.
Regardless, DUST 514 hopes to become a tactical shooter, and as such we should have the consequences of our actions hit us even by the pulling of the trigger. Adding friendly fire to at least the most obvious method of war should at least prepare us for full on F.F. we could start by adding FF to Explosive-based weapons , later on, Laser- based weaponry then at last, Projectile- based weapons.
Thats simply an idea I've proposed, and as such your entitled to your own opinion.

Val'herik Dorn wrote:Friendly fire is a good Idea but starting with only explosive weaponry is the wrong way to go about it. The number of AR users is already ridiculously high compared to ANY other weapon in the game. now make it so that only explosive weapons cause friendly fire and your pretty much killing any incentive to use them. Because everyone will hate them even more.
I do my best to not hit my team mates as is because despite no friendly fire that lovely plumb of smoke that my MD makes is quickly blinding and i know that if i get used to hitting them when FF is actually turned on ill end up killing my team as much as i kill the enemy team.
The way to implement FF is simply just across the board all at once no phasing in because then at least everyone has to get used to it not just one group that has a harder job since well our weapons do splash damage and will hit more people. I like the idea of FF but do not think that it should be implemented on one type of weapon at a time that would be unbalanced and a poor choice.
Also i don't use the MD recklessly i use it tactically with all the points I have in Light Weapon SS i can lob explosive rounds at snipers and hit them... MMM delicious tears when i manage to get them.
i wont argue if you can use the MD effectively, more power to ya. tried it myself recently, good weapon, difficult to control but a good weapon nonetheless.
maybe it does have to be friendly fire on all weapons, all at once and i can agree. Since the open beta, i have seen a surge of AR's and despite them being nerfed, Most of my deaths were mostly assault rifles( then again i was using a sawed-off Logi-bro, bad use of it in manus peak :P ). ar's and pistols are generally aiming down the sights and pulling the trigger. I'd hate to admit it, but even Laser and Sniper rifles are pinpoint accurate. HMG's and SMG's are spray and pray in a general direction.
but the reason why i would choose explosive-based weaponry first was this:
Area of effect. they are the only class of weapon that can damage an enemy simply by a combination of shockwaves, shrapnel and/ or just pure energy from the blast, all 360 degrees. perhaps add an additional incentive towards explosive-based weaponry, liike more warpoints perhaps?( "explosive-kill assists" to add to the regular kill assists. for HMG's you could add "Suppression kill assists"... hmm i might make a thread on that alone.)
I proposed the idea based on personal experiences on both sides and previous complaints from others about the different forms of explosive-based weaponry, why one would survive a an allies grenade. for myself... It just felt odd.
if this was to happen i would ask " what incentives can you implement to make up for the consequences?"
but as i say before its simply an idea, maybe the devs would read this and implement it into the game, make changes, perhaps even go big or go home. regardless,it would be a good way to start, both in phases or enabling full F.F
